Hello again

Hi there! This is going to start being a blog again.

I originally set up this site in 2013 with the ambition of writing reviews of all the Hugo nominees that year. After Worldcon, I let the blog lay fallow, as that was also when I started writing my undergrad thesis in earnest. Now it’s been about a year and a half since I graduated and I feel ready to write again.

I can’t say exactly how often or how much I’m going to write here, but I can say this: writing SFF and comics reviews and criticism is my work right now. And this website is where that work is going to go. So watch this space! And send me your recommendations, if you’d like.

Welcome!

Greetings, everyone! This post is here as a bit of a placeholder while I get the actual content for this site ready. What is the actual content for this site? Well, I’ve been a lifelong fantasy and science fiction reader, and am something of a recent convert to horror. I’m also a lifelong comics fan, though not usually much of a superhero person. I’m going to be writing here about speculative fiction, both prose and comics (and possibly TV, films, games, etc., though prose and comics will probably be the main focus).

Since this is my first foray into posting my ideas about fiction publicly, I’ve decided to give myself a specific assignment for the first few months. My plan is to review all of the nominees for the 2013 Hugo Awards in print fiction categories. (That is, Best Novel, Novella, Novelette, Short Story, and Graphic Story, for a total of 23 works.) Sadly for Hugo voters, there’s definitely no way I can read and review everything by the Hugo voting deadline, which is July 29, but I’ll try to get all the reviews posted by this year’s Worldcon when the winners will be announced. More details on the 2013 Hugos review project will be in a forthcoming post.

My plans post-Worldcon are more sketchy; by then, the fall semester will have started, so I’m unsure whether I’ll have time to write a lot of reviews. However, I definitely want to keep this blog up long-term, so if you have recommendations of works I should write about, please let me know in the comments!
